I believe that water is the only drink for a wise man. ~ Henry David Thoreau
An increased intake of healthy water will greatly enhance digestion‚ nutrient absorption‚ skin hydration‚ detoxification, energy levels and virtually every aspect of better health!
Water is required for life and good health, and is necessary for:
- Blood and lymphatic circulation
- Digestion and assimilation of nutrients
- Elimination and metabolic waste
- Temperature control of your body
- Lubrication inside your body
- Energy production
- And much more…
Our bodies are made up of more than 70% water; therefore, it’s important to keep in mind the quantity and quality of water your drink. The amount of water that you need depends on many different factors, but if you’re like most Americans, you don’t drink enough water. As a general guideline, drink 6-8 glasses of pure water a day.
Most of us who live in the Truckee/Tahoe region have some excellent water coming out of our taps at home. And if you haven’t heard, the water we have available to us for FREE is usually much better than what you would get from a water bottle purchased at the store. If you haven’t seen the move “Tapped”, I highly recommend it (available on Netflix). The movie examines the role of the bottled water industry and its effects on our health, climate change, pollution, and our reliance on oil.
Try starting your day by drinking a glass of room temperature, lukewarm to warm, lemon water. In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) it’s important to start your day with water because of the time lapse between going to bed and getting up. Lemon water cleanses and stimulates the liver and kidneys, and lemons offer a huge list of other health optimizers. In TCM, the liver is responsible for keeping things flowing smoothly, while the kidney controls water metabolism and it’s also one of the most important organs for reproduction.
So drink up – savor and enjoy the taste of pure, clean water – as we see the snow melt into water and the season change into spring…
